Death to Eco-Luxury!!

Wonderful news! Payless Shoe stores have announced that they are releasing a line of eco-friend(ier) shoes this fall, meaning that the plebes like you and me no longer need to have eco-envy or "green guilt" for not buying expensive eco-luxury products manufactured to fleece the LOHAS. Now only if Payless would close the loop, and offer recyling and product takeback, the world would be better. Actually, that's an awsome idea....a couture shoe leasing service.....get people to pay for the service of having really cool shoes that you only want to wear like five times.....woah.

Press release here.

Does getting daipered by Sarah Palin constitute a Nightmare?

A close friend of mine, who happens to be a Neocon told me he was up all night the other day having nightmares about Sarah Palin. Remembering that he is totally hot for Sarah Palin, I wondered aloud if it's wasn't a sex dream that kept him "up" instead of nightmares? "No," he said, "I had dreams that I was Sarah Palin's Down Syndrome baby, and she kept trying to diaper me."

I did mention he's a Neocon, right? I'm going to go with sex dream on this one.

But seriously, I'm getting really sick of about hearing about how hot Sarah Palin is, and how un-hot Hillary isn't. I mean, Barak Obama probably looks way better in a banana sling next to the pool than John McCain, but no commentator has spent any time directing anyone's attention that way. I mean, once in a while, people mentioned Clinton's "charisma" and his "mysterious effect on women" and the late Kennedy Brothers' serious hottness, but who has done it recently? (It also kinda begs the point: is there a hot Republican?, but I digress).

Is it really necesscary to sexualize ANYONE with boobies? Can we either - as a society - get over the boobie fetish, OR invest equal time in a "cawk and bawllz" or buns fetish as well?

CBS Commentator 1: Thanks Dan, well John McCain's buns look really great in those pants.
CBS Commentator 2: Yeah, it just makes you wanna reach out and squeeze those little pork buns of love.
CBS Commentator 1: Yeah, Cindy McCain is one lucky heiress! And back to you, Dan!

At least the pap and drivel they feed us would entertain ALL of us.

Urban Farming

The stock market crashed (is crashing?) this week, at a time when we are also getting hit with high gas prices. Food security is a big issue that I'm concerned about, especially for low-income urban dwellers, who sadly, already have limited access to healthy foods (fruits and veggies!). As fearful investors move their money out of the stock market and into T-Bills and gold, what holds it's value for non-investors? How can we have some resilience in the face of a decimated stock market: manual skills (always tradeable), durable foods (home canning anyone?), tools and convertible materials.

So, if you find yourself experiencing financial hard times in the Bay Area, here are some kinds folks who are working to make sure you can still eat; maybe you should consider canning some too.

Free Farm Stand
www.freefarmstand.org
Sundays 1-3pm
in Treat Commons Community Garden
(23rd and Treat St. in San Francisco)
Everything at this farm stand is free, and grown in the neighborhood (and donated by the neighbors).

Alemany Farm
http://www.alemanyfarm.org/
Volunteer workdays are held from 12-5pm every 1st and 3rd Sunday of the month, and all the Saturdays in-between.
Volunteers are welcome to take some harvest home, and the farm also operates a low-cost farm stand in Bayview/Hunter's Point on Wednesdays (although you'll need to call for location). Most things are for sale for a dollar or two.
